  1. i think its a dove because if you go on google and type in dove it shows a picture of one the same color of yours but a lil bit smaller

  2. Hi,

Its a pigeon, you can tell because of the big nostrels.

  3. that's so cute!

i've never heard of anyone taming what looks to be a pigeon.

  4. I believe it is a pigeon. Have you taken it to an avian vet to make sure it isn't sick and carrying a disease? It's always a good idea too. Since I'm not completely sure whether it's a pigeon or dove, here is info on looking after both:

  5. Definitely Pigeon, (red color gives it away).

Pigeons are often kept as pets (re: "On the Waterfront," movie with Marlon Brando) and sometimes raced.

B.F. Skinner trained them in his study on Operant Conditioning.

  6. It's definitely a pigeon -- looks to be mixed breed but it's hard to tell from the angle of the shots.  It might have some Flying Flight in it, but I can't be sure.

BTW - dove/pigeon are the same thing.  It's just that in English, we tend to use the word pigeon for larger members of the family Columbidae and the word dove for smaller ones.   Some languages don't do that.

It's a very pretty bird and it looks like you've been taking great care of it. You might enjoy interacting with other folks who've saved injured birds like yours at http://www.pigeons.biz  Check out their Pigeon-talk section.  There are lots of people who enjoy one or two pigeons as pets.

  7. never seen one of them.looks too big too be a dove or a pigeon.but its some sort of hunting fowl probley.

  8. Pigeons have colorful throats. That just looks like a fat dove.

  9. A pigeon is just a common/lay person's name for a type of dove called a Rock Dove.

They belong to the same family as doves such as Turtle, Ringneck, Mourning, etc. - people just call them "Pigeons" familiarly as sort of an endearing pest nomenclature - but they are, in fact, Doves.

  10. This is without any doubt a  pigeon. Looks like a very well fed 1 at that!  Doves are about 1/2 the size and are gray with a lighter colored breast and have several dark or black spots on their upper bodies.

  11. Its a baby pigeon. Doves have a skinnier head. Look up baby pigeons on line and you will see they have the same kind of beak and deep colored feet. Good for you for saving that bird. He looks like a cross between one of those white pigeons let loose at weddings and a common pigeon.

  12. I think it's a Dove but my little brother thinks it's a chicken. (lolz)
