Okay so I was wondering if it was a dumb idea for me to take the SAT in October, see what I need practice in, and retake later in the year? Will colleges see that I took it twice and take that into consideration?

Help? Whats your personal experience with the SAT? How much did you study and what did you score? I've done a whole Princeton Review book on it..so I have been studying..but I just want to know what I need practice on.

  1. No, its a great idea to experience the test and to find your weaknesses so that your studying will be more focused. Most people take the SAT at least twice, it is not unusual at all. Originally all of your scores would have been sent to the colleges. However, now you get to chose which test is sent to the college, or you can opt to have all of them sent, its up to you what they see.

My experience with the SAT wasn't bad. I took it twice and the second time I was satisfied with my score and decided that I was done. I completed the entire Official SAT Study Guide from the College Board. So congrats on completing the book, I know that it takes a lot of focus and determination, most people I know couldn't do it. My first time taking the test I received an 1830. I then waited a couple more months and just did another practice test in the book to study for it. I scored a 1910 the second time.

I'm not sure what grade you are in, but if you are a sophomore you can take the PSAT to see what you need to improve on. It does not count for college and is strictly used to show you what you need to work on and give you an idea of what you will score on the SAT. If you are a junior then go ahead and take the actual SAT in October. Best of luck with everything!

  2. No, that's not a dumb idea.  It's an excellent idea.  You will get to see what the test is like and be able to better prepare for the second round.  Universities only take your highest score in to consideration.
