My friend got a letter in the mail, addressed to him at his home address stating that he'd won a large amount of money and this site was stated

http://loteria.abc.es/

I think it's a load of BS - but he's been ummming and ahhhhing for 2 wks and the closing date for him to claim is the 10th July. I don't understand how a supposed recognised site is all in Spanish and WHY he's have won something he hasn't even entered ....

Any Spanish readers out there? I'd appreciate your interpretation skilsl!!

  1. You cannot win if you did not buy a ticket.  It doesnt matter what site its pointing to.  Tell your friend to get a grip, its a scam.

They point you to a (maybe valid) site but they are asking you to reply to the letter I bet.

Scam hint #1, you didnt enter

Scam hint #2 a short 'you must reply before' date

  2. Scam. They are probably asking for your name, address, birth date,etc......... However, if they sent it through the Mail, take it to the Local Postal Office and show it to them. In the USA people that use the mail to perpetrate a Fraud get about 20 years in Prison. Also, the postal Office will be aware of any other reports on this Site.

  3. It is fake. There is a site in Spain, called El Gordo de la Primitiva. And there is the Mega Sena in Brazil (in Portuguese).

Links to their official sites can be found here: http://loteriasinternational.com/links There are also a few links to sites that list scams and frauds.

They will NEVER send you an unsolicited email, or say you have won, if you have never played with them.

Another clue: if anyone says you won, shouldn't they already have the information they are asking for?

  4. Any unsolicited emails stating you have won a lottery which you haven't entered are all scams.

If you click on the below link this site gives excellent advice on how to spot various scams.  There is also an online form for the reporting of such - (with links for your own country.)

The best advice you could give your friend is to tell him to mark it as spam and delete it, or report it, using the online form in the above link.
