Is this a fast Mile?

Question

I am 14 and rune a 5:10 mile is this fast.

I did do X/C but i didnt think it was that fun should i do it this year based on my time

Your time is excellent for a freshman, it beats my time as a junior by a little, lol. It's a great time, but make sure you can stay consistent for 3-4 miles.

But if you don't enjoy XC... don't do it! High school is all about you and your interests; go for what you want to do. Find something more fun, maybe another sport, or an awesome elective. :D

Yeah that's pretty good for being 14 years old. Assuming that you were using an accurately measured course, a track is the only reliable way for someone in your position.

At that level, if you can manage 5k you could probably get around 17:30 to 18:30. That's as fast as 5:40 miles over 3.12 miles.

If you are doing any training at all, go out and find your 80 percent for whatever your average distance is, 3, 4 or 5 miles or whatever. If it's less than 6:00/mile pace or even 6:30, you could find yourself improving enough in the first month or two to make top 7 your first year.

Basically, once you can do 5:10/mile over 5k, you'll be in scoring position not just top 7. Seems like it would be a shame not to try, to me.

Before the season starts, though, don't put in more than 20 to 30 miles a week. keep it light.

Ya that's great  keep working.  Yeah you should do it. Maybe some kids on the team are faster than you but who cares that's how you get better. In the all out run just draft someone who's a little bit faster than you. Drafting is where you get right and I mean right behind them. When you do that your doing 12% less work and it tires them out more.
