  1. parental care is adaptation by various groups of animals to bring up their children.

  2. Nurturing young is an adaptation in some species.  There are different strategies for reproduction.  Some species produce few young but invest a lot of energy to help ensure they survive.  Other species have adapted to invest little energy into individual offspring and instead produce tons of them so that a few survive.

Poikilothermic (cold-blooded) animals are more likely to use the latter strategy because the young don't have to consume as much food to keep themselves alive, so the chances are better that they can make it on their own.  Homeothermic (warm-blooded) animals, on the other hand, need to eat a lot to maintain body temperature and if young were not aided, they would very likely die.

  3. I would say yes it is. Because any species wants their own kind to continue to live and exist. By nurturing the young form it ensures they will reproduce and keep the species existing.
