You mean a stratocaster. It's a good guitar if you have the american made model.

The model made in Mexico is much cheaper in hardware and quality of wood.

If you have the money for an american made, by all means , but one. It will have a good re-sale value down the line whereas the mexican made will deterioriate.

For the cost of the Fender Starcaster it isn't a bad guitar package. For a beginner guitar it's a good choice as you get to learn the basics and then once you decide you like playing the guitar you can upgrade to a better model. With the Starcaster package you also get an amp and a load of accessories, which you can keep and use with any other guitar you buy in the future. The guitar beginner packs are really good for new guitarists and I always tell my students to get one of these when they are starting out. You get a guitar strap, cable, soft case and guitar picks as well. If you bought all of these on their own they would cost a lot more than the Fender Starcaster package! Starcasters are not good. Fender makes some good guitars and imports some bad ones from other parts of the world. STARcasters are nasty . . .I recommend Yamaha for a cheap acoustic beginner guitar. If you want a Fender electric, try a Squier Bullet.

Whatever you do, buy a guitar from a music store, not from Target, Amazon, or overstock.com.

The Starcaster is Fender's attempt to let non-music stores sell guitar starter packs.  If you go to a music store you'll see lots of comparably-priced starter packs but you'll be dealing with a salesperson who can give you professional advice and even help you when you have questions.  The kid at Target can't even tell you how many strings a guitar has.
