I would use it for cross training, and a triathalon

Also, do people at triathalons usually have a tri bike or a road bike?

  1. Im a triathlete/marathoner.

if your going to use this bike as a cross training bike, then a road bike would suit you better. Over time you can add clip on aero (tri) bars, but the seat angle is not as good (road and tri bike are built with different seat angles).  triathlon bikes are usually much more expensive, but the investment is not worth the money unless your thinking about seriously picking up triathlon.

  2. If all you want to do are triathalons, then you might want to invest in a basic tri bike.  However, if you plan on overall riding, just go with the road bike.  You can always move the seat forward and put clip-on bars to make the bike a little more tri ready.

The bike is fine, but you'll want to update the components as they wear-out.

  3. You should go to a triathlon and look/talk to folks.  It's a big investment and why do it wrong the first time?
