  1. I'd go with the JVC rather than the Toshiba, to be honest. Toshiba isn't very highly regarded in the camcorder world whereas JVC has more respect. A HDD camcorder needs to have a good imaging device, an although the Tosh has a 1/3rd inch CMOS chip is also has a high ratio 30x optical zoom which is suspect (you'd expect it to be 10x or 12x with the size of chip it has).

JVC's HDD camcorders use MPEG2 compression (which is similar to that used on DVD) to create its video images, and you can then download the whole lot to a computer using USB 2.0 cable. Qaulity at this end of the range is pretty good, actually.

It depends what you want to use it for, of course, but for general family stuff I'd go with the JVC.

I recommend checking out hppt://www.simplydv.co.uk for camcorder reviews and tips and they have good forums as well.

  2. I'd also warn you that with technology like this, generally you get what you pay for. The more money you're willing to spend, the better quality your camera will be.

  3. Yep I have one and it works fine! : )
