Depends on what you want to do with it.

Short films: No, because it doesn't have the features you'd want to tell a story effectively, like 24p or image controls or 3ccd/cmos or anything.

Documentaries: No, same reasons as above.

Recording for fun with friends and stuff: Yes, for this it is very good because of its extremely low price, easy to hold style body, and use of SD cards instead of tape. If this is what you want to do with it, then its great. Never used it, just looking at the features. I'm assuming it gives acceptable image quality, so keep that in mind.
