it was a......

a peugot 206, 1.4 engine.

the mileage was 42,000, 1 owner, it looked good, no dents, hardly even any stratches looked nice clean interior, good tyres.

we didnt get to test drive as we ran out of time, booked one for tomorrow though.

am wondering whether this is good deal? seen it in a garage.

are u better going for a car thats got low milage and only 1 owner? surely its been better looked after?

thanks

  1. good (y

  2. very good car

  3. its a bargain but make sure you have a service history

  4. It does sound like a killer deal. However, you should def take a mechanic with you to check it out. Sometimes there are problems unseen to the untrained eye. =)

  5. get the (vehicle Identificaton Number) (VIN) and go to Carfax .com that will give u a report, Pug's are not neccesarily reliable, and the 1.4 is not the most reliable of motors. Test Drive It listen for any noises or knocks

Miles Per Gallon (MPG) this is huge make sure this is good if its not dont even mess with the car. Gas is 4+ a gallon! Take some one more experienced with this kind of stuff with u

    Hope this helps!

  6. Oh h**l yes, those cars are very nice! Good price too!!

  7. The cars themselve are generally good cars, they do have a few minor faults but then again which cars don't. You will be expecting to return about 40 mpg, but i would say the price is at the top end of the market for a car of that age. I would only be looking at paying about £2495. Good luck make sure you see a HPI before buying to make sure the car is a straight one.

  8. It's good but it's NO Yugo!!!

  9. seems like a good deal. definitely test drive it, and find the mpg too.

  10. What reg is it? Thats an important factor. Do you not know anyone who's good with cars that you can bring with you? Dealers can rip you off to the tune of hundreds if they think you're 'green' enough mate, wouldn't want you to get done. Peugots are good cars, reliable and with cheap parts to hand should they be needed. If you'd given the registration it'd have been easier to give you a proper answer but i'm sure my fellow yahooers will not do you wrong! Hope you get the car you want and at a good price. Incidentally, if you know a good mechanic or someone who's good with cars and their engines, you'd be better off buying privately, you'll pay a couple of hundred pounds less than a dealer would want off you! Have you looked at gumtree and ebay? There are lot of honest people out there, especially on gumtree, who wouldn't want you do buy an old banger! Have a look, can't do you any harm! Best of luck to you.

  11. it's miles per gallon and the car is overpriced haggle the price to 2250 with a full tank and a full service

  12. I would buy it!

  13. Whether it is a good car depends on what sort of car a person likes to drive. The Pug 206 with the 1.4 engine is a fair enough little car but Pugeot do not have a very good reliability record - in the 2006/7  Reliabilty tables published by the Consumers Magazine 'Which' Pugeot came 3rd from bottom out of 30 makers.

But 'reliability' covers everything, not just likelyhood to break down.  Me, I love Pugs. I had a 306 and am now on my second 406.  None have ever missed a beat - BUT - they have each had niggling faults.  For instance, my 406 has a rubber seal around the doors held in by little plastic push clips, you consistently catch this seal with your foot as you get out and the clips break and the seal hangs out a bit. I have now cured that one by putting a bead of 'Tigerseal' on the rubber before replacing the clips yet again. So far this seems to have cured that one.  On both my 406's and my 306 i would spasmodically get the seat belt warning light come on. In the two 406's this related to the side bag on the drivers seat and was/is a dodgy wire connection under the seat. Also on my present 406 the direction signal indicator does not centre so you find after you have turned the opposite indicator tends to come on. The car has only done 58k and these cars were 16 grand new so that is bad as these indicator arms are NOT cheap!

One owner and low mileage is every ones aim but you could get a driver like my son who does not do many miles, he does not do much maintenance either and he drives as if he was on a race track.

Funnily enough, the best maintained cars are very probably ex company ex lease cars as they are maintained at main dealers as a condition of the lease.

Suggest you take a knowledgable friend with you to give it a good look over.
