I'm 13 and the oldest of 7 kids (sibling age 9, 6, 4, 2, and 3 month old twins). I'm sick of the chores I have to do and siblings not helping me! I asked my mom if she could help me, and we came up with the idea of giving my siblings chores except the twins. I came up with these chore ideas (with a little help from my mom) and she loves them!
9 YEAR OLD:
pick up room
make bed
pick out outfit for next day
empty dishwasher
AFTER MEAL CHORE: sweep under the table
6 YEAR OLD:
pick up room
make bed
pick out outfit for next day
wipe off art room tables
AFTER MEAL CHORE: wipe down table
4 YEAR OLD:
pick up room (with help)
make bed (with help)
pick out outfit for next day (with help)
get mail and sort it (in the sorting bins by the door)
AFTER MEAL CHORE: push chairs in
3 YEAR OLD:
pick up room (with help)
make bed (with help)
pick out outfit for next day (with help)
feed fish
AFTER MEAL CHORE: shake out bibs and help wipe them off
DAILY GROUP CHORE:
pick up downstairs playroom
WEEKLY CHORE:
pull sheets off the bed and take them to the laundry room
I decided to make a big poster for each child with there name. Then on each poster write their daily chores, daily group chores (that all kids need to help with), and weekly (every monday) chores. Since the younger 2 can't read, I will add pictures to their chore list.
Then I thought of (someone on here actually gave me this idea) having "marbe jars". Each child has a jar somewhere with their name on it. Then at the end of each day, we will go through their chores and see if they did. For every chore they did, they get a marble. Once the marbles get to the top, they get a speical treat.
After I make the posters, I will go through the chores with them and explain what happens when they do their chores, and when they don't. Then we will go hang the posters and set up the marbe jars.
Do you think this is a good idea?
