I am getting a new fish tank (my first ever!) i just wanted to know if this was a good community:

1 male Siamese Fighter

4-5 Neon Tetra

1 yo-yo Loach

2 Corydoras Panda Catfish

These will all be in a 30in by 15in by 12in tank.

  1. Get 6 neon tetras.  They get aggressive and tend to nip fins if they cannot school properly and they need at least 5 to school properly.  Having 6 gives you one extra in case something happens to one so that they won't end up nipping the fins of your betta.

Get 3 corydoras.  They are very social fish and are happiest when kept in groups of at LEAST 3 or more.

Otherwise, they should be ok.  The yo-yo loach may need some company  too, but it may school with the cories.  Sometimes they will.  If it doesn't, you may need to look into either taking it back or getting some more loaches.

  2. um i never heard of those type of fish but i know a bit about catfish they tend to be a bit agressive to other fishes my catfish litually killed all the other fishes in the tank

  3. That is interesting but it should work! Although, I would switch the male Siamese fighting fish to a female!

  4. You're kidding,, right?

These fish don't mix, and the tank is too small.

  5. Your tank works out to about a 20 US gallon tank (about 75 litres).

Keep the neons in a shoal of 6, not 4-5. I would have the corys, not the yoyos, and in a group of 4 as they need more company of their own kind. I would consider either getting bronze or sterbai corys over the pandas, pandas can be quite delicate and must have a mature tank.

yo yo loaches really need 40 gallons or more, they're a bit too large and active for a 20 gallon. chain loaches, which do fit in a 20 gallon, are too active and busy and may annoy the betta (aka siamese fighter).

Don't forget to cycle the tank first!

  6. Wow. i think it fits well..

    Huge tank, peaceful fishes... congrats

  7. At least you've obviously thought about it. I would probably drop the yo yo loach in favour of another panda as bottom feeders need there own space and yo yo's require a bigger tank.

  8. okay, so heres my suggestion to you. youre tank HAS to be atleast 20 gallons if you are getting that many fish, small or big. next you can NEVERRR put a siamese fighting fish with another! they have to be isolated at all times, unless you want to breed. even after breeding the female siamese fighting fish will kill the male. you must be extremely careful with them. considering you want a male, they are more aggressive with other fish than a female. for being very small, they are one of the most aggressive fish! everything else sounds okay, but i wouldnt get the catfish. even though its a bottom feeder, it doesnt fit in with the other sizes. too big.
