Art is and can be shite,or a stuffed dead cow or an old sofa. But I prefer the artist that as the art of reproducing with skill and imagination some thing beautiful to be admired.

Good art provokes a reaction - makes you feel happy, sad,  horrified.  Brilliant art changes the way you look at the world, opening up new horizons or revealing something about the world you live in which remains at an unconscious level most of the time (which can be mundane) i.e. Andy Warhol's pictures of soup, dollar bills etc... which reflect our consumer world, a world of copies without originals etc...

Hmmm? I like that! nobody understands me when I say something is exceedingly mundane. Although, i don't know the exact meaning of arcane. (oh good something to look up) Anyhow, I am in AP Art History (not to in any way brag) and so I have learned a lot about art. Basically, art is anything that humans have made. For example: If you pooped in the toilette and took a picture of it then you have created art. I learned about this fertility doll that someone carried around with them was not art. I would have classified it as being so, but it is not. My teacher said it wasn't because it was totally created by the forces of nature. It is kind of stupid (in my opinion). But that is how professionals classify art.

A catchy definition of art for the artist, however, for the analitical mind, a better definition would be "Creating something with great skill."
