Many people consider anyone who fights in war and serves their country is a hero. The definition of a hero is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.†According too this definition, not everyman is a hero because not every man has done something of “distinguished courage.†This could be argued, saying that any man who goes to war on his own will is courageous. But there is a difference between courage and the desire for glory. Another definition of the word hero is “a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.†If a person bases their opinion on this definition, than any man who goes to war or does anything that can be considered heroic or courageous is a hero. So the question is; what makes a hero? Is it their actions, their choices, or the opinions of others?
