I will be starting my marathon PRE-training in September and I was wondering if this would be a good pre-training schedule.

Monday- crosstrain

Tuesday- Run for 30minutes + cardio/strength training (ballet) 1hour

Wednesday- run for 30minutes

Thursday- Run for 30 minutes + cardio/strength training (latin jazz and hip-hop 2hours

Friday- Run for 30 minutes

Saturday- Cross training

Sunday- rest

Does that sound like a good pre-training schedule for a begining runner? I have never run at all...ever!

  1. When do you plan to run the marathon? You'll want to have longer training runs which build up incrementally getting longest  a few weeks before the race and then tapering off so your body isn't so stressed.

Unless your reason for cross training on Saturday is that you are part of a group or something, you should do your long run then. That way, you keep Sunday as a rest day after your biggest workout of the week.

30 min runs are good for now, but don't run the same route the same speed, etc everyday. Throw in some longer and shorter runs during the week.

After a few weeks, add some hill repeats.

  2. Take your rest days wednesday and friday, the days after your biggest workouts.  Move fridays run to sunday.  What do you do for cross training?
