I'm new to this so please give me some feedback

My budget is around $1000-1500

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2

Cache, LGA 775

4 GB of RAM

And I don't know which one is better :

Radeon HD 4850 Graphic Card

or

Nvidia Geforce 8800GT

need help with a good motherboard and power supply

also need some suggestions of a nice moniter to go with the graphic card

  1. If you want, spend a little more money on the motherboard.

    Go for the x48-ds4

if not, go for a cheaper P45 motherboard.

for power supplies, always go with CORSAIR.

    They are very reliable.

  2. For Power supply, get teh best you can afford even at the expense of a video card. Meaning I'd go with a cheaper video card over a cheaper PS.  DON"T SKIMP ON A PS!

Right now I like the nforce boards..780i and 790i boards are great.

As for the video cards, either one are good. I'd get the Radeon though, the 8800gt is getting old.

  3. well first for gaming your better with a fast core2duo then a quad and as for a GPU don't get a GT get a GTX they are way faster. personally i use a 9800GTX. motherboard you want one that supports alot of RAM at the price your spending i would get one the supports DDR3 and has a fast FSB. Make sure to get s 64 bit OS too or you won't be able to make use of more then 4GB of RAM

  4. Get an Asus NV 780i motherboard with 3 SLI so you can upgrade later.

Get a 1000 watt power supply so you don't have to upgrade later.

Sony makes a 24" HD monitor for under $500.  You can then get a Blue-ray drive (right now under $400, but will come down) later and watch HD games and movies on your computer.  Blue-ray drives will also play standard DVDs.
