The senate would allow HIV positive people to immigrate and travel without restriction into the US. If the house passes this law then HIV positive immigrants would have full access to come as they please.

Is this another reason the senate has such a low approval rating or do you think this would be good for the average American? If you think its good PLEASE elaborate how.

Would the taxpayers end up paying the enormous medical bills these people are sure to have? OR will the IAS (International Aids Society) pay the bill?

  1. That is positively scary. I am not saying they may not enter. but to come and go as they please. Makes no sense!! Many need treatment here in the states but I think we as taxpayers should not have to pay for it.  I think there should be enough charities for AIDS to pay for it.

  2. The people who want this passed are sick! It's not discrimination it is endangering people here. I migrated to the US from Australia and I had to pay $400 for health screening before I left, then another $600 once I arrived so it could be done again (to make sure I didn't have TB or HIV etc). I wonder if the senate are going to refund my $1000 since they no longer care if people are spreading HIV?

    Disgusting.

And you are correct in pointing out the fact these people will no doubt need medical care, I guess our tax money will be used.

  3. Well that's a no-brainer...the world no longer makes sense.

Do they see this as population control or something?! An extermination?!

  4. In an ideal world, we wouldn't need immigration laws.  However, while people hold hate against America, and while deadly diseases flourish in other countries, it is in our best interest to keep certain people out.

However, I do not see a problem with HIV positive people coming into America for the sake of treatment.  Now, perhaps something like this would not be good for the average American, but it would be good for the world.

Ethnocentrism creates an imaginary boundary that people draw to create divisions between themselves and others.  Ethnocentrism is one of the largest causes of war and genocide.  If you really think about it, is a nation's boundary really just, fair, or equal at all?  What are the reasons for it?  Is this boundary that we manipulated and developed out of war and conquest really expressive of our values as a nation?  how does a boundary represent freedom and democracy?

We often think that just because a person from another country seemingly hasn't contributed to our system, they lack the benefits of it.  However, if you really analyze how our system works, you will realize that it is dependent on the poorest nations of the world to produce the thousands of walmart items at the cheap prices we buy them for.  They are the flip-side of the coin to our wealth.  In reality, they are the ones who work hardest to allow us to live like we currently do.
