I'm in marching band and I am a Junior in high school this year. Last year when I was in band there was this 'elite' group of seniors that everyone wanted to be like and be included in. What most kids didn't realize that the target of the 'elite' was to make every other kid, that they considered under themselves, life's a living h**l.
Now, this year some kids in the junior class have decided to become the elite group. Their trade mark is by wear orange and purple bandannas, they even have inside jokes that no one not in the club is allowed to hear, and they made a facebook group called the BANDannas.
Well me and some of my friends are mad that Band is becoming a social caste system, band is about equality and a group of people with a love of music coming together.
So today we brainstormed and made this idea:
We got black bandannas and made a group name called the BANDits to show the BANDannas how ridiculous their group is. It's pretty much making fun of them only we are inviting everyone who is in band to participate in our group. Anyone big, small, pretty, ugly, smart, dumb is allowed to have a the BANDits bandanna and hang with us on weekends.
So is this a good idea or bad one? Any other ideas? Do you think our plan will work in that we can turn band into equality?
