Is this a good introducation letter to parents...?

Im a student teacher is this work for my letter to my parents? i dont want to write a novel to them..

here it is:

Dear First Grade Families,

As the new school year gets underway I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Ms. _____ and I will be a student teacher in your son/daughters first grade classroom. This opportunity is the last step I will take before receiving my Bachelors Degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin and I’m very excited to be here at _________ Elementary. I will be in the classroom working with Mrs. __________ from the beginning of the school year through the middle of January. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your child in the upcoming weeks. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead.

  2. It sounds great, but do not give them your personal number.  Give them the school number and the rooms extension if you have one.  There is nothing in first grade than is such an emergency than you HAVE to be contacted during your personal time.  

    I teach first grade (its my third year). I have wonderful communication with my parents...email and school phone...but I also always welcome them to talk to me in person if I am at the school.  I make myself available before and after (7-4:30 most days).  Typically one of the parents is able to talk to you.  If not I always accept notes and respond quickly.

    While we want to be the best teachers and give our students our all, we must remember in order to do so, we must have lives outside of them.

    As the new school year gets underway, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my excitement about being a student teacher in your child's first grade classroom.  This challenge... then keep going.

    I hate letters that say Hi, My name is.. I teach fourth grade writing and that is a huge no no.

    You might also add in a few lines about you personally -- focus in college, hobbies of interest -- things that you will bring in to the classrom (i.e -- I do pottery -- I bring that to the kids).
