  1. I know the price may look good but no, pass on that. I have a C640 with 2.4ghz P4-M, 512mb ram, 20gb drive (switched out to 40gb), CD rom, floppy drive, 1 USB 1.1 port, modem & ethernet. The battery is old/bad so I have to use my CD rom slot for a second battery, and even then it still doesn't last very long. It did not come with wireless, I had to find an internal wireless card to add to it from eBay and then hunt down the drivers to use for that.

It came with Windows 2000, I put XP on it, tweaked it for max speed, and it's still hard to deal with because it's so slow. It also gets HOT and the fan gets LOUD and I have to use the ONE usb port I have to power a cooling pad underneath it.

Yours is going to be much slower, and you can't really do much with Win98 anymore... or even Win2k for that matter. Many modern programs aren't even being developed for Win98.

Find something that has at LEAST XP with 512mb ram (you'll thank yourself if you get 1gb or more!), built-in wireless, A DVD rom (or even DVD burner) and USB 2.0 ports... maybe even dual-core if you can swing it.

  2. no.  sounds really old.  what year is the computer?  get something new. windows 98 has not been supported by microsoft in a long time and 128mb ram is garbage.  Most applications/programs wouldn't work on it anyway.

  3. For a quick answer, no, it is a very old laptop.

In more details, this computer would not be able to run Windows XP, so you may have problems finding programs that still run on Windows 98SE. There's also the lack of a DVD/CD burner that may pose a problem. You also don't have a wireless card, but you might be able to find a USB one that works in Windows 98SE.

  4. Remember them well, good laptops in their time but very much outdated now and with Win 98SE and only 128MB of RAM I wouldn't go for it. Curious to how much it is on offer for, a C610 would be a better option if you can find one, usually based around Windows 2000 and 256MB RAM as standard and the model that replaced the one you are looking at.

The C640 is newer but should still be quite cheap but no, I find it hard to recommend the C600 at all right now.
