Here is the letter:

Dear Mr. President:

My name is Rachelle Adams and I am 17 years old. I am contacting you regarding our men and women who are serving overseas. I have come across some Soldiers who are serving in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and these Soldiers are lacking the necessary materials to get their jobs done and this in turn makes their everyday life extremely dangerous. These soldiers have requested body armor and scopes for their rifles. I would love to purchase these items for them but I can not afford to, I already have a group of soldiers I sponsor. These items they are requesting should be provided by the government because these items are essential for our Soldiers well being. I was hoping you would be able to help our men and women receive these very crucial items, I could not believe that they were not provided with these items. These items were needed in the dozens for some soldiers and that made me extremely sad that they are working very hard and were lacking a very big source of protection. So please make their lives safer and better by providing them with these necessities. Thank you very much for reading this and I hope you are able to grant my request. Our wonderful Soldiers deserve it!

Sincerely,

Rachelle Adams

Should I address him by his name or Mr. President?

Thank you guys so much! God bless our Troops!!

  1. It is a very good letter; however, you are directing to the wrong person.  You need to send it to your congressman and senators with a copy to Nancy Pelosi and every democrat in D.C.  They are the ones who are playing games with funding for our soldiers, not the President.

  2. Military Chick,

It is a well written, thoughtful letter.

As Toms pointed out, it is Congress who apportions the money. But I'd send it to the president as well as your senators.

The correct way to address it is:

    President George W. Bush

    President of the United States

    Dear Mr. President,

As a retiree, I appreciate your efforts on behalf of our troops.

    "Ranger"

  3. I like it.  It's formal and gets right to the point.  It's respectful, shows your concern, and shows that young people care about our troops in more than an 'I hate Bush' manner.  Good job.

  4. It wont do jack s**t who ever you send it to but it's looks like a good letter.

  5. Looks decent to me.  You could address him as either "Mr. President" or "Dear President Bush".  I think "Mr. President" sounds better, though.

  6. Rachelle,

I've spent 26 months in Iraq. Both in Uniform and out, and i can assure you, that everything that youre asking for in their letter is provided. We have the best trained, the best equipped, most professional military in the world and they have all the tools they need to complete their mission.

Also, i'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but what are your sources? did you do research? Talk to veterans? Your 17 so i know you cant be serving actively in the military. Just curious. Perhaps you should research your complaints a little more thoroughly in the future. However, i think its wonderful that you care enough to actually send a letter up the chain. Most people just sit around and complain. I commend you for taking action, regardless of how small it might be. Thank you.

  7. It's a stupid letter, as your premise is wrong. My Son is one of those soldiers with four combat tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan and they are provided with everything they need, including what you ask for!~

  8. Congress controls the purse strings

    Vet-USAF

  9. Write it to your senator instead, they control funding for the war, not the president.

  10. It looks excellent to me.

It is also refreshing to know that at least one 17 year old paid attention in english class!
