Is this a good place to seriously discuss gender issues or just a place to s***w around?

You can discuss, but this is the internet...nothing is taking seriously, if it even matters...

I come around for serious discussion, but it isn't a lot of it here, so I go to another section for serious discussion or to polls & survey to goof off.

I like serious discussions most of the time... but I'll bet that can only be said for about half the people on here.  

That said I've had my moments of weakness.  We even perpetuate the trolling/s******g around by posting in their quetions and acknowledgeing their comments... so I guess everyone is to blame.

Take it or leave it... I'll probably be on tomorrow lol.

It could be a good place to discuss gender issues, and there are some stand out occasions where I feel I've had a great exchange, but mostly it's not that useful (unfortunately).

Even when one wants to develop a line of discussion, the format itself prevents it ... too easy for those with a 'barrow' to push to have extension or development of discussion removed as 'chat'.

So, the usefulness is limited, imo.

However, as a place to just muck about, it's pretty much unparallelled.

To seriously discuss gender issues?  Although that is what I am interested on, it seems the trolls have taken over.

I personally think this place has become an extension of "Singles and Dating".

For the ones of us that have been here a long time, the constant repetition of nastiness after a while becomes extremely boring.

But as others say, I still scan, for those contributors that make an interesting question, or respond with intelligent answers. Unfortunately, s******g around and bullying, predominates in this place.

There are too many questions that have NOTHING to do with this category, we just have to read. The bullying, we just have to read, page after page of it.

If and when I come here (rarely), as I just did to post a question, it is either b/c a particular Contact of mine has asked a good question, or I intend to ask a good question.  Other than that (no offense to all y'all regulars), I kinda stay away; just not my cup o' tea.

It flip flops; you know it should; think about some of these heated discussions we've been in. Topics, such as, submissive wives and abortion; they really took the toll. We had to s***w around just to stop the flames from really igniting.  Which, at times they did; however, more often than not, this is a serious place to discuss matters.

once in a great while a worthwhile question shows up just often enough to keep me coming back looking for more - however that's definitely not the 'norm.'  If G&WS was the only forum here, you'd end up with just a few screwballs talkin to themselves - thank gawd for choices.

Thing is right about its usefulness.  There's too much fighting and not willing to debate peacefully for a lot of really good learning to take place.  For whatever reason, 90% of this board comes down to feminists vs. anti-feminists (once in a while the battle lines will be drawn differently), and that stifles  a lot of good debate, as people from both sides of the aisle just don't often seem willing to even look at the other side.
