i'm about to leave McDonald's, and my manager requested a resignation letter with reasons why i am leaving.

02-08-2008

Dear (Manager),

Please accept this letter as confirmation of my resignation from (Company), effective August 16, 2008.

This was not an easy decision to make, but a change in my housing arrangements has rendered this particular McDonald's restaurant no longer convenient for me to reach. I also believe changing to work near my family members will be of greater benefit to them.

Thank you for the support and encouragement you have offered during my time at McDonald's (Location).

Yours sincerely,

(My name).

anything i need to add/leave out?

thanks!

  1. Sounds good to me.  The location of the workplace and ability to get to the workplace are 2 reasons why some people leave a job.  You worded it perfectly without having to give away too much personal information.

  2. You don't have to write anything when you quit a small retail job like that. Your manager is looking for something to use as evidence in case you decide to sue after you leave and to save his own butt. I won't write a single thing.

Legally, they cannot hold back any pay for this.  I'm a Mc'D vet and quit over the phone after I found a much better job for the rest of the summer.  It is just a school job that no one will care about years from now.

  3. Even if your manager asked for a resignation letter stating why you are leaving, it is in your best interest to keep comments about 'hard decisions,' and 'family members'  out of your statement.

All you need to say is that you are leaving due to moving and the current location is  now inconvenient, almost exactly what you said.

Please do not feel intimidated by the request. McDonald's is a stepping stone and is helping you become more mature. :)

  4. your manager doesn't need a resignation letter at Mcdonalds. He/she should be happy you even gave them notice in advance instead of giving a surprise! It's really none of their business. If you want to write it, dont' give any reason why. It's none of their business.

  5. It's really excellent.  May I suggest you be even more favorable to your manager, just in case, you need him as a reference at the next McDonald's.

    Dear

I hereby submit my resignation from Company at such and such location, effective August 16, 2008.  It's been a pleasure to work under your direction and I appreciate the experience I have gained during this time of employment.

My reasons for termination are basically that because I have recently moved, the commuting distance has become burdensome, financially, timewise, and also concerning family relationships.

Thank you for the support and encouragement you have offered me during my time at ______

P.S.  Yes, I also agree it's quite unusual for the manager to reuest this.  Perhaps he or she has had trouble with other employees and wants something to protect herself.  Still, if she's done you no wrong, you can write a letter of resignation and also be polite.  And I agree that you should delete the statements about your family, except I see no reason not to say the shorter commute affords you more time with your family.

This is a really good quesiton.  I'm learning something myself.

I'm wondering why you can't ask your manager why she is requesting a letter of resignation, that you think this is quite an unusual request.  Well, that would be me, I'm a very curious person.  Also much older than the typical McD employee.

  6. I would nix the whole middle part.... no reason for the explanation on the letter...just the basic facts...which is that your resigning and your last day.  The thank you part is OK to leave in too.

I missed the part about your manager requesting an explanation...but sounds to me...like he/she is wanting to have your reasons in writing so that you won't be able to get unemployment... I'm still not so sure I'd list out reasons... although the letter itself SHOULD keep you from getting unemployment anyway...seems kind of fishy to me.

  7. written well .they should be pleased with it 2 weeks notice qnd all that is in your favor.

  8. A manager from McDonald's requesting a resignation letter?  That is awesome.  I mean the next thing you know, cows will be attending college so they can get a Ph.D in psychology.

  9. I love it! Really professional.
