i have started running this week to prepare for field hockey pre-season next week. For two days i would walk a lap around the track, then run a mile (4 laps), and then walk a mile. I timed the mile. the first day it was 8:54 the second was 8:57. i know it is not great, but is it a good time for somebody who has never really run before?

  1. not that is a pretty slow time just keep training on long, slower runs and you will def get a lot better soon

  2. Well, for someone who hasn't run before, it's a solid time.  It isn't incredible, but with a little training it will probably drop.  For not being a runner, its not bad.

  3. Seriously I will get bad ratings for this but 9:00 mile is not good at all. Some elite HS girls could almost run that fast in a two mile. Not putting you  down you asked.

  4. A 9 minute mile for someone who has never run before is pretty solid.  I did track 4 years ago (when I was 16) and started off the season with a 10 minute mile, having not run in 2 years. Through regular running daily, as well as a lot of sprinting training (total of 1.5 hours running /day), I worked my way up to a 6:15 mile in 1.5 months. Just be consistent and push yourself and you'll get faster very quickly.

  5. The average not in shape person is supposed to be able to run it under 13-14 minutes. Its an okay time but with training, you can get it alot lower

  6. A 5-6 min mile is fast.  8 is ok.  Keep working.  You'll find it gets easier

  7. well depends on how old u r

    im 11 and i run an 8:03

but i run track and cc so if its ur first time- actualyl that's an amazing time!!!

  8. Yes for a person that hasn't run before i think it would be about average or a little bit above average. Good luck with your field hockey season!!! =)

  9. thats a fine pace for you, there are some people who start out running and can't even do a mile.
