A researcher wants to know whether lifting weights will help sprinters lower their 100-meter race times. Is this a good scenario for a double-blind experiment? Explain.

  1. Not really. That would be a good controlled study, though. In a double-blind there are two control groups. It's called a double-blind study because neither researcher nor those people in the experiment know who is being administered the "placebo" and who is getting the real experiment. Double-blind studies work with drug testing and some psychological situations. Hope that answers your ? well enough.
