  1. yes that is a good one to start with but you always want to change the string on them because they are usually not very strong test.

                 hope this helped!

  2. Sure but as a beginner you might want a baitcasting reel instead of an open spinner. They should have them also.

Also get yourself a practice weight to practice your casting. Put a target on the lawn and practice casting at it. It would also be good to find a web site with some fishing knots so you can learn to tie your own hook to the line and bait a hook.

Have fun and remember to catch and release any you don't plan to eat.

    edit:

I'm not much of a fisherman but I made it a point to take my kids fishing throughout their lives. Since they have all grown, perhaps my grandchildren will be next..

  3. you're better off getting a ugly stick at walmart for about $10 more. You get more tackle, and it dosn't have a spining real. They're ahrder to cast.

  4. Your ready to roll.

  5. ARE YOU FISHING IN SALT OR FRESH? YOU CAN USE A SALT WATER ROD AND REEL IN FRESH WATER, BUT A FRESH WATER OUT FIT WILL RUST UP IN SALTWATER. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR BUY A GOOD QUALITY OUTFIT, I RECOMMEND SHIMONO OR A PENN SPINNING OUTFIT. A GOOD SALT WATER SPINNING OUTFIT COULD COST UP TO A HUNDRED BUCKS OR MORE.

  6. Yes, don't forget you need a license, you can buy them only via the environment agency or in your local post office.
