Question:

Is this a good setting drill?

I just set a volleyball into a basketball hoop. I move around, so it helps me practice aiming where my sets go. Does this sound like a productive drill? If it is stupid, please no rude comments.

If you could give me any other vball drills that I can do by myself (not just setting) they are all welcome!!!

  1. That is an awesome drill. You could also...

Okay practice setting to yourself and slowly lower yourself to your knees and then down to your butt so your sitting and then lower yourself down so your laying down and then get up (all the time setting). Thats a setting drill to improve control i'm a setter for my varsity highschool team and my coach has me do that.

I have more so if you want them then please e-mail me

  2. yea thats a good 1. or try having someone toss the ball to the net and u run up and set different positions (outside, middle, opposite, etc.)

  3. Our coach used to do that in college in order to make her accuracy more precise. There is also a special setter's ball you can use to practice with. Its a little bit heavier, but it will strengthen your fingers to get used to all the work they'll go through.

  4. that actually is a great drill...i never thought of that!!! wow i should try that lol thankx!!!

  5. that sounds great! i never thought about that but then again i dont have a hoop! i also set against the wall just doing like 50 at a time. if ur ever in a group of 3 try triangle setting it helps ur aim. with setting always face ur target! (passing is face ball angle to target)

  6. This is an excellent drill.  Also try practicing with a basketball.  Will be hard at first, but will help develop strength  in your hands and wrists.  Be careful, let the ball bounce before you try to set it, other wise you can hurt your fingers.  Basketball is heavier so will feel weird, but when you go back to setting a volleyball, it will seem light and easy.

  7. that is great! the only thing i would do differently is i would change the height of the basketball hoop.

    other drills for:

    passing/bumping...

find an empty wall and try to hit it as many times as you can. i started at 45 and went all the way up to 105!! it isnt as easy as  it sounds.  also, you could bump into the basketball hoop, but again, change the height!

    serving..

if ther is someone toplay with, serve it to them. if you dont have a net, make a line with chalk or a rope and make sure you get it over the line.  if there isnt anyone to play with, serve it against a wall. the goal is to make it come back to you.

if you need anything else, feel free to email me. hope this helped!
