Question:

Is this a good spot to put my subwoofer?...?

So I read other previous questions relating to subwoofer placement and I've gathered that placing my sub inside my computer cabinent would probably not be the best idea with it being 11x11x15 inches. I'm contimplating putting it next to my computer cabinent between the cabinent and a dresser, which is in contact with the floor (no legs). So it would be between my somewhat hollow computer cabinent and a thick dresser. The speakers will be about 3 feet above the subwoofer and to the right, at its location.

I'm just curious if this is a good location for it in relation to the speakers and optimal performance. Thanks for any input!

  1. your speakers should come with instructions for placement. bass in not directional in any way, so as long as the sub is on the floor and preferably parallel with  (not in front  of or in back of) the mains it should sound fine.

  2. Ok, for a dorm room situation - you really dont have a lot of choices so dont worry about it.

But the "optimal" placement for a sub is usually corner-loading:

    - Find the corner of the room with the 2 longest un-broken walls

    - Put the sub 1/3 or 2/5 along the longer wall

This tends to be the optimal position.

The wave lengths involved exactly match common 4-15 ft walls so you get a LOT of reflected sound. This is why you cannot usually tell the subwoofer location in a room.  Corner-loading lets the sounds "see" the longer walls so the lower-frequency sounds are reflected.
