Question:

Is this a good stance?

I have been riding on a pretty narrow stance, and I am fairly tall. The stance angles were also really flat. This was on my cousin's old board.

Now, I just bought a board. The Salomon Patrol 159 wide. I eyed how I wanted the stance to be as far as width and angle. It feels pretty comfy, but I haven't tried it on snow yet. Really wish I had gotten it earlier in the season. The stance is kkinda duck compared to what it used to be with 24 on the front foot and 15 on the back foot. Do you think this is too duck? It will also be my second season next year.

  1. what ever feels comfortable too u should be your stance. i ride a  very slightly directional board. so i move the stance up and make the bindings reciprocal degree to give myself the best feeling wen riding switch. o yea, i do +15 on front and -15 on back. its a personal thing

  2. yeah, alot of shops will put the bindings faceing forward with a narrow stance for beginners. But you will get much better balance with a wider stance and duck foot. I personally ride 12 or 15 on the front and -9 on the back. And you really should widen your stance to slightly wider than your shoulders, as it is difficult to ride "duck foot" with a narrow stance. Plus it gives you more leverage to turn.

  3. When it comes to stance, it is just what works for you.  The recommendation is to have 30 degrees or less difference between the two feet (e.g. +15/-15) Yours is 39 degrees difference.  You might try bringing in the front foot a bit.  However, if it doesn't feel right just change back.

  4. dude how ever you feel comfy riding man. thats the way to go.

  5. DO NOT put your stance the way someone sez to put it, you HAVE to put it how it feels comfortable for you.  The eaisest way to figure out your stance is ..

Stand in front of your deck. As if you were on it with the board parrell to you. Now bend you knees a little and make sure your feet are 100% in the most comfortable posistion possible. Thats how you want to set your stance up. NUf said

  6. Some big mountain riders who ride fast even have both feet pointing forward, its all up to how you feel more comfortable. after my first year riding with both feet close and straight i switched to as wide as possible with maybe 20 in front and -5 in back and it felt really weird at first but any change will usually. give it some time... i say wider is better because i find you can spin faster and have a wider more stable stance. try jumping on something slippery or even sliding down a snowy hill with your normal foot forward and look at the position of your feet when your done, that is prob the way your bindings should be...

  7. I thought that same way when I changed my stance. But if you want to learn how to ride switch (ther opposite way of what you normally ride) it is much easier! also doing tricks on rails and boxes are easier !!! Good Luck!!!
