Question:

Is this a good teaching idea?

I was thinking of sometimes dressing up and playing different characters to teach different subjects. These would all be original characters. Maybe I would play a nerdy scientist to teach biology, or a police detective trying to solve the mystery of who shot Abe Lincoln.

I thought it would be fun if all the characters had the same last name as me, but a different title. So, if I'm "Mr. Jones," there could be a "Professor Jones" and a "Detective Jones" and so on.

What do you think?

  1. great idea. lots of work though, so as long as you have the time and don't burn yourself out. I take it you are a new teacher...

  2. yup go for it.. kids absolutely LOVE those teachers who go out of their way and more importantly they learn and even remember you and the stuff you taught years later..

  3. Awesome!  Regardless of the grade, students will LOVE it!  High schoolers will make fun of you at first, but they will enjoy it and remember what you taught.  Elementary kids will also LOVE it.  You may want to create one character at a time.  It sounds like a large project that could take years to prefect.  It also sounds  like a lot of fun!  Good luck.

  4. Sounds interesting, but it all depends on the grade and type of kids you teach.

  5. What grade? If you are good at it. Go for it. Drama is an excellent way to teach. Get the students involved at a certain time and let them dramatize the event. Check with the principal first.

  6. Great idea!  In our grade, we have a fellow teacher who dresses up like a nerdy scientist and changes his name based on what he is teaching...like Professor Atom.....The children LOVE it.

  7. Just do it! :)

  8. what grade are you teaching? like fourth grade? and are you willling to put up that much energy to do it? mabe do it only on one day of the week, like wednesday or friday. it could work. Go Ahead!!!

  9. That is always an outstanding idea based on the age group you are teaching of course.  If this is for elementary or middle school, it should be a hit.  If a higher grade then I'd say they would be too worried about who thought it was cool and who didn't to pay close enough attention.

    Great creativity! = )

  10. I think that's a fabulous idea!   I might steal it!
