  1. I've never ridden the Imperial, but I have ridden the Liquid Force Fish and it appears to be similar in design.  Shorter and wider providing a lower swing weight means it will spin easier.  The width and 3-stage rocker will provide more surface area for greater pop off the wake.  The molded cupped fins should provide a little tighter feel than the Fish, translation, a little tighter predictable feel.  This board would be in the advanced classification of rider.

The State is a beginner to intermediate, while it has a 3-stage rocker and will provide pop, the outer stabilizers will provide a much more forgiving landing.  Will have a much more predictable ride.  If you are not already throwing spins and inverts, I would say choose this board over the imperial.  Use this board as your progression into a more advanced setup.

You can always go down to your local board shop and rent the setups in your size and try them out.  I was in Dallas a few months back and rented a Ronix One setup with binding for a couple days for $40.   Also the rentals typically apply towards a purchase so it is a win win situation in the rental department.  Then you know if you will like the board before you buy.  Good luck.
