Question:

Is this a good way to loosen muscles before a volleyball game/practice?

I have a hot tub/jacuzzi and wanted to know if taking a dip in it before a game or practice would increase the blood flow to my muscles and loosen them and maybe give me a jumpstart for playing (along with stretching and warming up) or would stretching and warming up be enough? I know they usually are but I thought maybe that extra heat would really help. What do you think?

  1. Well the extra heat would work, but you shouldn't do it. Doing something like that is mainly used for having a muscle that has been strained, etc. Really the only thing it is doing is increasing the blood flow to the area. For stretching you just have to stretch really good to a comfortable tension and then go further once you don't feel anything from there anymore. If anything, after your done playing take a cold bath, usually at the high schools they have cold whirl pools, that helps with the muscles after wards if your sore.

  2. I'm going to have to agree. I'd go in the hot tub after the game, when you're sore! I'd say stretching/jogging, the tried and true "warm ups".

  3. hmmm....never tried it but it might help. You could try it and see...it sounds like a pretty good way to relax and stretch out your muscles. Just try it before a practice one day and see if it helps your endurance levels and skills. Just make sure you do remember to stretch out before running or playing. Have fun relaxing!

  4. sure then strech

  5. I might have to tell you No... it is not a good idea.

Jacuzzi tends to let you "over"-relax. You should do it after your games, not before.

Stretching is a good idea; a pre-game scrimmage is also good.
