friday afternoon my hamster Cake died. she was very old but it was still heartbreaking. my boyfriend was going to work but he called in to spend the weekend with me and our daughter. he took us to this lake to go fishing(he's a country boy at heart). then he grilled me the best steak ever. today he made me a slideshow dvd of Cake. i think he's the sweetest man in the world. How about you?

I didn't even know it was possible to get emotionally attached to a rodent that lives no longer than four years in captivity. I could understand mourning the loss of a dog or a cat, but mourning an animal that spends its time in a cage eating, sh*tting, sleeping, and running on a wheel is crazy.

He sounds like a great guy.  Empathy is really important, and it sounds like you and your daughter are both priorities for him.

Sorry for your loss - he was a cute little hamster.  I hope your daughter is coping with his loss okay - I had hamsters as a kid and I used to get heartbroken when we lost them.

It's very tough losing a pet, something people who are not fond of animals sometimes don't really 'get'.

Seems like your guy is a nice person, and I bet that's because you are ~ I've noticed people often get back what they put in :-)

Your little one will feel sad for a while, maybe, but some hugs and a new hamster will help her understand that life goes on.

And your lovely man sounds great :-)

AWE! That's so sweet! He's a keeper! He sounds like my husband, always willing and caring. I would deffinatly keep him!
