Question:

Is this a healthy exercise routine?

3 times a week I go to the gym. I spend 20 minutes running on the treadmill. I then spend 20 minutes toning my bicep, tricep, thigh and calf muscles.

Also, 7 days a week I do 50 sit ups and 15 pushups.

Is this a good routine? Will it help me lose weight? Should I add anything or work out more muscle groups?

  1. i see you are mearuring everything in time. its not about time its about quality. now you are eating healthy( but erase the diet cocke. coke is like black poison) so your doing good there but let me modify you work out a little bit. the running is fine. now when you work on each muscle lets say your bicepts. try to do minimum 3sets bicept curls of about 20 reps( if you are doing light weight) lets say with 15 or 10 pound dumbells. and whatever exersise you do for you other muscles do 3 sets of it. but make sure you feel that burn, and when you do alwais strive to get 3 or 5 reps more. is that push that helps that will get your heart going and build lean muscle while burning pounds of fat. also for your push ups and sit ups. once again do 3 sets of 50 and 3 sets of 15. when you are done with 1 set of sit ups move to the push ups and when you are done with the set of push ups go back to the sit ups. but make sure you are doing the exersise correctly. specialy the sit ups. make sure your back does not hurt. you can easily correct that by making sure you are looking forward and not towards the ceiling when you do one. and for your push ups that you are putting the pressure on your chest and bicepts and not your shoulders.

    remember the golden rule

LIGHT WEIGHT TRAINING DONE AT A HEART PUMPING CARDIO PACE WILL BUILD LEAN MUSCLE AND BURN POUNDS OF FAT. so the more weight training and muscle building exersise you do the better. since it will increase your muscle tone and it will increase your metabolism and you will burn more calories doing just normal stuff. also it will make your cardio far more effective. however if you are striving to gain muscular size i hate to disapoint you because since your are a woman you wont gain much. unless you use steroids and even if you do you wont grow much. best of luck

  2. A little more aerobic wouldn't hurt, possibly after your weight training as a nice cool down, but depending on what your occupation is, you may get enough movement without it.

Also, doing one set of push ups and sit ups in a day isn't totally effective.  Yes, it's certainly better than nothing, but try to do that twice a day, and even see if you can gradually increase the amount that you do to build strength.

Despite what I've said, it's a good workout routine and many tubby Americans could benefit from what you do for exercise.

  3. Sounds like a good routine. If you want to lose more weight, you should add more cardio-exercises, not weightlifting things. So more treadmill, biking, stairmaster,...

And of course, watch what you're eating!

  4. Overall, it seems OK, but I would do crunches instead of sit-ups. They are more effective and you can do variations to hit different parts of your ab muscles. On your strength training, make sure you are using as heavy of weights as you can - the harder you work, the more calories you burn. If you build a little muscle, that also makes your body burn calories faster.

  5. use a calorie counter and a workout planner to find out. i use those from http://www.projectweightloss.com/index.p... It's a free weight loss site with useful weight loss tools.

  6. You can up your cardio and weight training to a 30 mins each one. Dont do push ups or sit ups every day. Abs is like any other muscle, needs time to heal and grow. Make sure that you are taking your heart rate to the right rate for your age in your cardio workout. It will maximize the fat burning process.Hope this helps. Good luck

  7. yes that sounds good but you should increase you running by 10 mins, so you do 30 mins in all. Good luck
