Is this a healthy pregnancy or miscarriage?

My girlfriend who has been told she was close and at risk for a miscarriage, who is 10 weeks pregnant as of now. has bad pelvic pain and cramping for 2 weeks straight, no bleeding.

One day she spots, (wiped herself and saw blood) red blood. Cramps persist.

Then she starts bleeding for the next 4 days it goes up and down in intensity. At times light and at times kind of heavy. Cramping persists.

Pregnancy symptoms start decreasing.

The 5th day she starts bleeding heavier and the cramps are much worse, she passes chunks of blood, or blood clots at different points during the day.

On the 6th day there is light bleeding with cramping as it has been. On the night of this 6th day, the bleeding stops while the cramps persist.

On the 7th day there is slight cramping and no bleeding.

On the 8th day, there is no cramping and no bleeding.

On the 9th day, no cramping and no bleeding.

So why did she stop bleeding? does this mean the miscarriage has happened and is now completed, or rather does it mean it is not going to happen? In other words, is she somehow all of a sudden out of the clear and the miscarriage just stopped and her and the baby is ok and the pregnancy will go on or simply did the miscarriage finish and run its course? Or is there more bleeding to come? thank you and god bless

She says that she doesn't think she miscarried because she still has pregnancy symptoms and because the bleeding stopped.

  1. Given the fact that she has had so much bleeding and passing clots, my guess would be that she has miscarried.  That being said, she need to be seen by her Ob right away.  A few things are possible...

*She may still be pregnant and the bleeding was from a blood clot, a second sac that never progressed, or some other cause not affecting the baby.

*She may have had a missed miscarrige which requires medical intervention.  (meaning the pregnancy is no longer viable, but she has not passed all of the products of conception.)

*She may have had a complete miscarrige... everything has passed and her symptoms will be begin to subside.

Regardless, she needs to be seen to verify what is going on and have her labs checked.  Pregnancy hormones take time to return to zero, therefore she may experince pregnancy symptoms of some kind for a bit longer.

    I wish her the best.

  2. I am not a doctor, but it certainly sounds like she miscarried.  There was a lot of cramping and bleeding and the passing of clots is a tell tale sign.  Often after a miscarriage, a woman can still have pregnancy symptoms because the HCG hormone which causes those symptoms has not completely cleared the body.

She definitely should get checked.  A doctor can confirm if she has miscarried.  If she has, it is important to make sure all tissue has been expelled.  Otherwise, there could be an infection.

  3. First things first, she needs to be seen my her OB.  ASAP!  Second of all, If she miscarryed her bleeding would be very heavy for atleast 48 hours straight and she would pass alot of tissue.  My best friend just had a miscarriage and it took her a week of bleeding on and off before she actually passed her baby.  After the baby was passed (whiched looked like a huge blood clot) she bled very heavily and had to change her pad like every 30 minutes.  I would say any bleeding that heavy needs to be checked out and she needs to be on bed rest.  Good luck to you guys and i hope everything turns out healthy.

  4. Well if she had clots she probably miscarried. But if she was still cramping and no blood maybe it didn't finish coming out. She would need to see a doctor because it could cause infection. I know if clots came out then it's not a healthy pregnancy. She needs to see a doctor. If it is a miscarriage and hasn't finished bleeding it could cause problems later for any future pregnancies.

  5. The same thing happened to me. I was 4 weeks pregnant when i had a miscarriage. I did not have any cramping. The bleeding started very light. The first day I only saw blood after urinating. The second day the bleeding got heavier and i went to the emergency room. The doctors took blood (to check for the pregnancy hormone HCG) and also gave me a ultrasound and then diagnosed me with having a miscarriage. The bleeding continued for a week. I still had pregnancy symptoms after the bleeding stopped because the pregnancy HCG hormone was still in my body. You girlfriend needs to go the her OB/GYN or the local emergency room and have a ultrasound performed to see if the embryo is still there and she needs to have her blood tested for the HCG hormone to check if she is still pregnant. The pregnancy symptoms will not go away right after a miscarriage it can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. I hope this was helpful information.
