If there's no one else on the road that I'm driving, in front or in back and there's no cops or cameras, can i just get up to speed and take my foot off the gas pedal and just coast through the street? Especially on up or downhill slopes.

  1. If you mean get up to the speed limit then coast, sure, but you'll eventually slow down and have to speed up again. It takes far less energy, and therefore far less fuel to just maintain a constant speed than it does to accelerate over and over again.

  2. If you can coast up hills you have an awesome car

  3. If you are continually accelerating and coasting, you will not be saving gas.

  4. hehehe...I'd pay to see that...

You're burning more gas "getting up to speed" than you would keeping at an even speed. Especially going uphill.
