Is this a marketing ploy? I know much "greener" cars?

doing a search for electric cars I come up with tons of conversions available as well as some very nice production models coming out soon - both reasonably priced and also high zoot. So much less maintenance, cheaper too run, and no emitions at all. If youre keeping within a hundred miles of home, as everyone almost always does, why not go electric?

And what happened to the ethenol fuel cell? simpler than hydrogen in every way.

I feel it's a marketing hype - misdirection from what is really "green" and not just "greener"

A hybrid is just a car with good gas mileage.

I'll find you an electric car that suits everything you want -try me!

  1. the only green i see is that they cost more green backs that is

  2. the only way corporations will go green is if they can make a whole lot of money in the process.  i  never  understood why suvs are legal -- other than being very non green -- they slow and obstruct traffic.  have you ever been sandwiched in by 5 of them?  you cant see over around or through them.  all you can do is pray one doesn't roll over on you.

  3. You are absolutely right, John...it is all nothing more than "hype" to aquire research money grants of millions of taxpayer dollars which hardly is used for research at all...be sure of that...  It's always about money...!

There are many electric vehicles already available and more to come for short distance travelers.  However, I can only imagine the disator of having dead batteries in a traffic congested city at work time traffic...!

Whatever changes do come about will only introduce more maintainance costs to the consumers, count on that as well...

A classic example of that is the hybrid with an electric motor attached to each wheel to enhance higher speed at less gasoline consumption...  Not only is there a tank of gasoline to fill but also are there several batteries to maintain as well, not to mention the additional danger of battery gases and leakage in the driver compartment...daaaaaa.........!

Who knows, perhaps our highways will have charging stations every mile soon...it would create jobs...the other side of the political coin...lol

If my four door Lincoln Mercury Grand Marquis eight cylinder fuel injected 4.5 litre engine can give me 29.8 miles per gallon of gasoline then why can't these SUVs do likewise...???  That's not a bad number for a tank that size...!

I agree with you, John, and am glad to know others are seeing thru the dense fog created by the greedy.  However, I personally feel the hydrogen fuel cell is the way of the future unless the recent finding of producing energy from salt water has any practical truth to it...

  4. Well you have to leave an electric car on charger overnight and if you ever do need to drive a few hundred kilometres you probably won't be able to do it in an electric car (yes, I know it's possible to tow a generator or extra batteries, but that isn't the best solution out there).

There are also emissions at the power plant which is probably coal so unless you live in France an electric car will still contribute to global warming.

  5. Are you asking or telling?
