My girlfriend who has been told she was close and at risk for a miscarriage, who is 10 weeks pregnant as of now. has bad pelvic pain and cramping for 2 weeks straight, no bleeding.

One day she spots, (wiped herself and saw blood) red blood. Cramps persist.

Then she starts bleeding for the next 4 days it goes up and down in intensity. At times light and at times kind of heavy. Cramping persists.

Pregnancy symptoms start decreasing.

The 5th day she starts bleeding heavier and the cramps are much worse, she passes chunks of blood, or blood clots at different points during the day.

On the 6th day there is light bleeding with cramping as it has been. On the night of this 6th day, the bleeding stops while the cramps persist.

On the 7th day there is slight cramping and no bleeding.

On the 8th day, there is no cramping and no bleeding.

So why did she stop bleeding? does this mean the miscarriage has happened and is now completed, or rather does it mean it is not going to happen? In other words, is she somehow all of a sudden out of the clear and the miscarriage just stopped and her and the baby is ok and the pregnancy will go on or simply did the miscarriage finish and run its course? Or is there more bleeding to come? thank you and god bless

She says that she doesn't think she miscarried because she still has pregnancy symptoms and because the bleeding stopped.

  1. One question...

She didn't get to a hospital during the whole week she was experiencing severe cramping and bleeding during pregnancy? I'm a little confused about that.

From an amateur point of view, I believe that going through heavy cramping and bleeding during a pregnancy is not normal. Sometimes you can go through something called "implantation bleeding", but this is usually a light spotting with little or no pain at all.

From what you describe, it sounds like she had a miscarriage. If that's the case, there's usually no "going back" from it unless she had gotten to the hospital at the very first sign and even then the chances for helping anything are very slim.

In that case, she might be done bleeding for now and she might spot a little for a few more weeks. Either way she'll need to get to a doctor ASAP to make sure there's no fetal tissue left in the uterus. I would also suggest some sort of counseling to help cope with her loss, if it turns out that a loss happened.

  2. Time to call the doctor if she hasn't already ... if she is miscarrying, they need to make sure there isn't any retained tissue.  All the best ...

  3. Tell her to go to her ob-gyn. You cannot assume she is still pregnant - she may have had an 'incomplete' spontaneous abortion. A  friend of mine was told after a similar episode that she had miscarried. Only to find out through ultrasound that she was still pregnant. She went on to have a beautiful healthy baby girl. Go get checked as soon as possible.

  4. Go and ask the doctor so they can check it out. Only they would know what really happened.

  5. she definitely should've already called the doctor already!! Get her in. I hope things go well for you.

  6. I think she has already or is going to miscarry. She needs a gynaclogist-ASAP. She has to be scanned to ascertain the status of the pregnancy. She may need to go through a d and c precedure. The bleeding may become very bad so go to the A+E quickly.

  7. I think you already know that she needs to go to the doctor

  8. go to the doctor and have them do an ultrasound, and check her HCG, a pelvic exam too, that can tell if her cervix is  open or closed. is it is a miscarriage and she stopped bleeding already, she may need a D&C to get out the remaining tissue... i am so sorry u guys are through this.... good luck to you...

  9. To me it sounds like she miscarried.  I miscarried my last pregnancy at 8 weeks, with slight bleeding off and on from week 10-11, got checked by my ob (no ultrasound) and he said everything was A-ok.  well he was way wrong.  I went in for my 12 week ultrasound to find out i had miscarried at 8 weeks, but it did not miscarry all the way (some wont)  They had to do what is called a D&C to get rid of the baby remains that i still had in my body.  She really needs to get in to see a doc and get an ultrasound asap.  I hope all is well, but it really sounds like a miscarriage due to red blood and clots.  God bless you and your girlfriend in this hard time.
