  1. Nope Tidal Waves are caused by moons pull.  You're double crossed because a lot of people referred to tsunami's as tidal-waves until the last twenty years of the last century.  Tsunami's are caused by landslides, collapses of seabeds, earthquakes etc. Tidal-waves are causes when the resonance created by the oscillation of the bi-daily tides, happens in such a way that the wave builds intensity each time 'back into a specific' location.  If barometric pressure, winds, tides and some other forces align in a congruent way....a larger wave than the normal 'high wave' will come ashore....nothing like a tsunami but certainly enough to be a danger to bathers...especially in places like Santa Monica Bay, CA where rip tides and undertows are already  dangerous and a bather pulled in by the larger than normal wave may not be able to escape the resident undertow...and be out to see, just like tsunami victims.  BTW the great lakes of the upper Midwest can have a similar, but even smaller overall comparable magnitude...called a Seiche. See link

  2. Yes.  Tides are primarily caused by the effect of the Moon's gravity.  The Moon is always there, and its gravitational effect is constant.  If the Moon caused tsunamis they would be a regular occurrence.

    Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes and massive undersea landslides.

  3. On the other hand, the moon slightly flexes the crust of the earth, so potentially, this can be a trigger for an earthquake.

    It is a myth that the moon can trigger labour in the near-term bump club.

  4. its totally a myth.. sometimes tsunamis incorrectly called a tidal wave... and tidal wave do caused by moons pull DIFFERENT then TSUNAMIS..

    A tsunami is a huge ocean wave that can travel at speeds up to 600 mi/hr (965 km/hr), hundreds of miles over open sea before it hits land. Tsunami is Japanese for "harbor wave." It is, in fact, a series of waves which travel outward on the ocean surface in all directions in a kind of ripple effect

    The following events can create a tsunami:

    * an underwater earthquake

    * a large underwater landslide

    * coastal landslides into the sea

    * volcanic eruptions beneath or near the sea

    * in rare cases, a tsunami can be created by the impact of a meteor

    i guess this already explains much..

  5. it is caused by under the ocean volcanoes or earthquakes

  6. No tsunami is not caused by the moon.To learn about it try the link.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsunami

  7. no the ocean tide and all that it does are related to the moon...just as a full moon can actually cause pregnant women to go into labor if they are near the end of their pregnancy...
