Question:

Is this a normal side effect of using a super plus tampon?

The other day I took out a super plus tampon. Suddenly, my stomach started to hurt, and I truly thought I was about to throw up. I got very pale very quickly and almost passed out.

What happened, and is this even remotely normal?

  1. Were you using the right sized tampon for your flow? I know that if you use a tampon that's too thick when your flow is light, the tampon will be dry and "scrape" against your vaginal walls which can be very uncomfortable. I've never heard of anyone having the symptoms you mentioned above. Maybe you should mention this at your next gyno doctor's visit.

    Good luck!

  2. You should never use a tampon that is too strong for your flow because it can cause TSS- toxic shock syndrome, which has symptoms that you described above.  It's better to change it often then use a bigger one that you can keep in longer.  Be careful because you could end up in the emergency room for days if you get TSS.

  3. it might of not been completly absorbed, with that, it can be kinda hard to pull out since its cotton and the fact you used a super plus tampon..

see this is the scary truth, that companys  that make tampons dont want to tell you.. why? b/c then thier product dosnt sell..

if you ask any doctor, they will tell you that really you are not supposed to inscert any type of cotton like substance in you.  if you read the back of the box it will talk about the risks, but dosnt really go into great detail.. they say if you leave the tampon in too long it can cause infection,(shock) but what it really is... is the cotton being kept up there too long and getting extremely absored. this is a disaster waiting to happen.

you would  think when your standing in a asile of tampon products and you see all the variety you can choose from, you think and want to trust that they wont harm you.. it is just marketing and truthfully they really dont care..its money for them..  yes they give you the risk factors, but they have to by law. the mistake that some women make when buying the super plus tampons is.. if i put a big one in there, then i can go all day or i dont have to change it as often.. (yes this happens) so if your cycle is kinda on the low side and you incert  one for a heavy flow, mind you more cotton which i already said isnt a great idea becomes more of a risk factor.  basically if your flow is that heavy, doctors will recommend using a pad.. i know i dont like pads that much, but i will do it for safty reasons.

lastly... its hard to say if your symtoms were related to the tampon or not, but just to be on the safe side, dont purchase the super plus tampons andymore.. if you still want to use them, do the regular ones or the smaller ones and just deal with changing it more often.. if you dont have a gyn. then just call a office and explain your question and see what they advise you to do.. GOOD LUCK
