Is this a problem of the Governments and PCT's own making?

Im referring to this news story in Yahoo news. There is a "serious" shortage of nurses providing neonatal care and hospitals are struggling to meet demand, a committee of MPs have said. Each of England's 178 neonatal units had to close its doors once a week on average during 2006-07, with the MPs warning of "major implications for patient safety".

What exactly did they expect to happen when for the past four years newly qualified nurses have found it extremely difficult to get jobs as PCT's had 'job freezes' in place, and many experienced staff were let go when they were made to reapply for there own jobs in a cost cutting excercise!!!

There isn't a serious shortage of Nurses, we are all here, a massive glut of us!!! Through mismanagement and incompetence a lot of us have not been able to find full time work as a nurse. Then they wonder why so many young Nurses go to Oz and Canada!!

So is this the governments and PCTs own fault? And when will people stop blaming Nurses for the condit

  1. Government meddling trying to fiddle the books again. Due to "reorganisation" of shifts, my daughter worked a 13 hour shift yesterday with one 20 minute, and two 10 minute breaks and will do the same today - and she is a supposed "senior grade".   Many of her staff have already gone to Oz, NZ and Canada.  No career progression and more cuts likely.

  2. It is absolutely the fault of the Government, won't say anymore cos I'll go off on a tangent!
