Today I was at the Musuem of Science and there was this heart rate measuring thing. My brother and father had 60-70 beats per minute, but I had 90-110 beats per minute. Is that normal? Am I alright? Please help!

  1. how old are you; the younger you are the faster you resting heart rate will likely be, but no 90 is not a rate you should be worried about.

  2. Problem May not come now. Do u have any BP? or breathing problem?

    Anyway pls contact good doctor.

  3. well you`re alive aren`t you? LOL no you're perfectly alright :P. in fact its better for you, you get more blood! =]. maybe your brother & father smoke/are chubbier than you/exercise less but their hearts are OKAY, yours is super healthy.

  4. That's only high if you're a full grown adult and you took that heart rate at rest.  You'd also have to be at rest for a few minutes.  I'm betting that you're not an adult and when you took that heart rate you were excited and certainly not at rest.  Don't worry, it's nothing to be concerned about.

  5. Ellens answer is completely wrong. Resting heart rate depends on your physical shape and size. Your fathers and brothers aren't low because the normal range is 60-90 bpm. Super athletes like Lance Armstrong have an even lower heart rate because they are in such great shape that their bodies use more of the oxygen (perfusion) out of their blood more efficiently.  Remember that these are resting heart rates and they will go up with exercise. Your heart rate is fine so dont worry about it. Also, the best way to get an accurate resting heart rate is to take it in the morning when you wake up.

  6. you don't mention your age -the younger you are, the faster your heart will beat.  you sound pretty normal.

  7. I think Nate has answered your question quite well.

I want to add a few more things. If you are an adult (say above 16), and your resting heart rate (i.e. after five minutes of sitting in a chair) is greater than 100 on more than one occassion, then you should be screened for hyperthyroidism and other such disorders.

If your resting heart rate isn't persistenly elevated, then I would not worry about it.

  8. Well, assuming that you are not like 6 years old,

if I were you, I would not be worrying because the thing is the museum HR device is probably not the most accurate in the world, especially is you are a small person... Also, you may have had coffee, or something with caffeine, or may have seen a ridiculous HR on the screen like 130 for a second (again, its a museum not a hospital) and then that drove your HR up.

Of course, if you have any symptoms, or start feeling nauseated or lightheaded or anything then it may be a more serious problem with you Autonomic Nervous System or Heart, but an unrepeated fast heart rate with no symptoms rarely means anything special...

    Rest Easy... lol...
