Question:

Is this a problem with my struts or Wheel bearings?

My mechanic recently told me that I'd need new rear wheel bearings and struts. Yesterday I was driving away and I heard a loud POP sound and right after the car began to drag. I thought I got a flat but my tires were fine. I heard a LOUD squeeking noise when i tried to back up and park.

Was it most likely the struts or the wheel bearing that went out?

  1. I'd say it could be both but more likely the struts. I used to work at a car repair shop so I know what you're talking about. Hope this helps.

  2. Jack up the car and spin the wheel. If there is a grinding noise your bearing is gone.

The take the car off the jack, and bound the corner of the car. If it bounces more than three times, your strut needs replacement.
