My optician told me to give him my prescription for glasses, and he can make me contact lenses. Is that the proper contact lense prescription?

But i went to the opthalmologist too and he gave me an eye exam coz i asked if my eyesight changed, and then the new prescription is the one i gave the optician. It's -1.75 on the left eye, and -2.00 in the right. The contact lenses i got are soft contac lenses.

  1. If you are in Canada, yes...the optician can make the changes in the glasses Rx if necessary, and do all the measurements and fitting of the contacts.

With your Rx, in this case,  the contacts and glasses would be the same Rx.

If you are in the US....no...a separate Rx is required....it just costs a lot more for the same result.

  2. They can, but why doesn't your doctor just give you a full eye exam?

  3. In Canada it is completely normal for an optician to interpret an eyeglass prescription to get a contact prescription (the difference between the two is an eyeglass sits in front of your eye and the contact directly on...therefore, depending on the type of correction you need...the contacts may be stronger or weaker than your glasses

If your eyesight has changed it may be a coincidence that your Rx for glasses is the same as your old contact Rx...it happened to me!
