I was wondering if this was real, because to me it looks like it has some "fixing" to it, so can any of you determine if this is a fake photo?

  1. parts of it looks realy but some look fake.

i dont know if its upposed to be real or if its totally fake.

but its really hard to tell.

...if thats what ou were getting at.

  2. This is very interesting because when I first saw it I felt it was real.

Seeing what other wrote I went back to look again, then I was sure it was a fake.

wow my brain is sure open to pwer of suggestion. LOL

My eyes might be old. What is that object? anyone?

    A dinasour bird?

Well, why not real, the civil war isn't all that long ago

And stuff is being dug up all the time.

    Help?

  3. The photo may be an old one but That's definately a canoe with an ox bow across it.  So yeah, I'm sure its a real canoe and ox bow.

  4. it's difficult to tell. we're not expert on this field.

if only this so-call person George let the expert to examine the physical photo instead of sending an scanned photo

time for bed i'll type more later

  5. its real...but people have been trying to preserve the photo, so it will probably look fake because of all the stuff that they've done too it

  6. its fake because it looks pretty much just drawn by an artist.it couldve been a simple art piece lost or something,It could have real looks but that doesnt mean its technically real.if you look at some different art pieces of portraits, they may LOOK really, but normally they were completely painted

  7. fake...the guys foot in the front seems to just be in mid air not really on anything. looks like he may have had it on a rock or tree stump before. and the last guy to the right, if u notice his left foot should be seen right under that "wing" or whatever that is.

  8. I took a good look at the photo unlike others about 3 min. Well in the 1800s photo quality I know wasn't good so I'm not quick to judge it as a fake photo, it does look like art but will take awesome skill to get details on trees like that. This picture is low quality taken from a distance. Most pictures from the civil war i've seen or close range but because of the low quality I would imagine this would be how it would look since pictures were in it's early stages of development. Remember these are not cartoony low quality photos used in the 1940s and present. So it should look grainy and cartoony from that distance

  9. Real. But the damages and aging look fake. Maybe photoshopped to look that way.

  10. I think the photo of the people is real, however, the dinosaur thing is FAKE. If you look closely at the front persons foot, it isn't on top of the beak, it's going through the beak. (I think : P)

  11. When you look at the saturation level of the black in the jackets (I know, they are really dark blue, but the camera image of that time does not see in color, so it would be black) it does not quite match the saturation level in the creature on the ground.

That gives you the reason to suspect it is fake from a purely camera /photo -hop aspect.

That does not even get into the lunacy of the subject...I recall reading that this was a stunt for a time travel film...

besides, thos one looks much better

  12. Their uniforms look a little too new for the Civil War period.

And the men look a lot healthier, stockier, than people of that time.

Unless there was a news story to back it up, I would say it's a fraudulent picture.

Forgot to add: The dinosaur period ended over 65 million years ago. If any life forms survived, they were either hiding underground, or maybe deep in the oceans.

  13. id say real. b.c. it looks old

  14. I couldn't determine.  You'd have to take the original negative to an expert.  But I did, some years ago, hear about pterodactyls being sighted over Cape Cod, in Mass.

  15. It's really impossible to tell definitively from a scan of a photograph - but I would definitely assume 'fake'. The critter (some type of pterodactyl, perhaps) just looks drawn, not photographed at all.

  16. It looks fake to me. I have seen the picture with the men before and he has his foot on a human body.

  17. Looks as though someone use photoshop to make the photo look old and torn.  Its been doctored.

  18. that is soooo fake. you can tell by the ends of the supposed wings. It looks like it was a canoe or some sort of boat.

  19. It looks fake because the people look digitally added and so does the thing in front of them.

  20. 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another!

To help to  truly tell if fake or real it would have to be in my hands so that I could feel it and view it.  The subject matter appears it could be as originally grouped for the original photo shoot; but to me, it appears as though there has been an attempt to restore it and could, more than likely, be a copy of the damaged original.

Take it to a photo studio that does photo restoration.  They surly will be able to tell if it is "fake" or "real".

    Catch ya' later---Tillie

I just looked at the photo again.  The first time I looked at it I thought the object that is spread out through the middle of the photo was an early American Indian canoe of sorts.  This time it looks like a prehistoric creature---is it?  If so I will have to concur it to be a stunt photo.  It is a "real" photo but the creature must be a "fake" and the men must be dressed in "period" costume to get the creators desired plot idea to appear as needed for the project.

I still feel you need to take it to a photo restoration studio.

  21. Looks like a photo shop cut and paste = fake

  22. It looks very real to me, but technology these days, is so advanced, Who knows?!

These look like Union soldiers in the Civil War. If you had history on the photo it would be easier to tell if it was fake or not. Where was this picture taken (what sate I mean.) ? If they were Union soldiers, where was the rest of the army? So many questions come into play...I would also say, it depends on where you found the picture.

In an old basemnet or attic? Or online.

And yes, cameras were invinted in the Civil war. There are many pictures of soldiers, Abraham Lincon, and weapons.

  23. that looks ridiculously fake

  24. There are a few problems with this.  Most journals during the civil war (and there were tens of thousands) normally talked of the boredom of camp life.  Why none of them would have mentioned such a creature is be beyond me.

Keep in mind that ambushes and snipers were common during the civil war, and soliders learned early on to keep an eye open for any suspicious movements like...I don't know...a giant flying dinosaur.

Other problems arise as well.  The civil war saw two types of soliders-the young and inexperienced and the hardened veterans, like any war.  The young and inexperienced would often panic in battle, and often miss entirely with their rifles.  As such, the formations made up for the lack of accuracy by having a volley of shots.  One must assume that if such a creature were flying low enough to even be shot, it would have terrifyed the young soliders.  As for veterans, they would not have been foolish enough to pose for a picture in a forest during wartime given the tactics seen by both sides in the Civil War.  Most pictures of soldiers are taken in camp, and not in the field or potential field of battle.

    These pictures are fake.

  25. I found another... the stories that go with these photographs are about "thunderbirds" that were shot and killed. The object itself is real enough, but the question is one of whether or not it's really a pterasaur.

Just FYI, most people of the day thought it was a cloth-and-plaster construction over a wooden skeleton, though the soldiers never recanted their stories about its authenticity. The last survivor adamantly denied in his journal that any fakery was involved.

The problem is, I can't find birth or death certificates for any of the people reportedly involved. There are also no service records for the men in uniform, including the person who reportedly wrote the journal. This leads me to believe that it is, in fact, a hoax, but with an awesome story.

Oh, and... that's not the only photo. Here's the other photo I could find. There are three more, all fakes.

  26. It is real because of its old time picture marks.

  27. That's totally real.  That is me second from the right.  Someone tried to make this picture look old, but it was really just during our civil war reenactment weekend.  Dinosaurs are really good eating by the way.

  28. Real as you and me.

    Guess what? They're still here!

  29. It looks real because of the age marks. I don't really think it's fake, to me nothing about it might be fake.

  30. Ya, their jackets look too clean and new.

  31. fake, dinosaurs died out way before the camera was invented
