Is this a realistic idea to help loose weight in a long term and effective manner?

What is your opinion about taking "baby" steps in weight loss by moving forward with one goal each week.

Week 1-Replace soda with water

Week 2-Walk around the block once each day

Week 3-Increase veggie intake

Week 4-Wear pedometer and start tracking steps

Week 5-Cut portions for one meal in half.

Week 6- Jog slowly around block each day.

Those are not exact steps, but the point is that each week something different to help improve health and promote weight loss will be added. Is this a good idea, or is a set-up to failure?

  1. your 'week 5' step seems imprecise...you dont have to exactly eat lesser to shed fat!just reduce frequency of meals from 3 big meals a day to 5 or 6 small meals(that means 1 small healthy meal every 3 1/2-4 hours) and drink anywhere from 6-12 glasses of water a day...jogging and walking are cardio oriented...do some yoga or pilates stretches after the cardios to reduce occurences of loose skin...good luck


  2. I think it's a fantastic idea.  Week 1 will probably be a little difficult, but if you stick with it, you will see results.  My sister was drinking 5-6 20 oz bottles of Mt. Dew every day, and when she stopped, within 3 weeks she dropped 30 lbs.  Maybe another suggestion, add walk around the block 2 times a day to week 4.  The more you move, the better the results!

  3. I think these are all very good steps to creating a healthier lifestyle which is what you want to do if you want to both lose weight and keep it off.

    All diets work... while you are on them.  The key is to fit things into your life that you can live with.  Some people can live without bread and pasta so they do a low carb/South Beach type diet.  Other people are ok with journeling so weight watchers works well for them.

    It sounds like your steps are in the right direction!
