is it normal for someone to visit your home from canada registered savings plan ? I just had a baby (i month )and already have one

(3 yrs ) , i didnt get around to saving up yet for them.

I recieved a phone call from someone saying they were from canada registered savings plan but she wants to come to MY home and give me a 20 min presentation and this cant be done over the phone . Ive tried looking online and cant really find anything related to this...

she leaves me with a cell phone number and tells her to call if i cant make this appointment. Thing is though , is she called from a private phone number and at 7 p.m.

The only other thing i can think of is that ive been on baby websites and coupon surfing .... maybe thats how my info got out? ~ but she had the wrong address... so hmm i have NO idea.

  1. I think that at worst it is a scam, and at best it is someone trying to sell you something that will not be in your best interests or your baby's best interests.

  2. No this is not normal at all, for some Canadian government agency to come to your home, there are times you cannot get hold of someone on Canadian call centres and how is this person and why is this person coming to your home all of a sudden when it is hard to get hold of any agency, definitely do not under any circumstances let anyone in your home especially when you have a brand new baby. you must have signed up to something like welcome news for baby, and somehow your information is now floating around with these scammers. so please never let anyone in your home and do not give out your address.

  3. There is way too much there for you to not be cautious.  I would call the Winnipeg Police Dept and ask if they are aware of anything going on in your area.  You can also call the Better Business Bureau.  The Winnipeg Police page also suggests calling PhoneBusters for information on current scams  (1-888-495-8501)

You can never be too careful.  (Congrats on the new baby)

  4. I think it's just an advertising presentation. They probably got your information through something you signed up for inadvertently online. If I were you I'd politely decline the offer because it sounds like this person is going around to anyone who has registered information in the realm of savings plans and is hounding them for a sale.

  5. If I were a betting man I'd say it's a scam.  Contact your local better business bureau, tell them your story and see what they say.  Under no circumstances let a stranger into your home while you're alone with your children.

  6. No.  Its a scam. Don't get them any money
