Is this a sign of labor approaching soon?

the past couple days i have had on and off back pain...seems to get worse as the days go by...nothing really timeable. I have constant tightening of the stomach and period cramps and feeling like i have to go number 2 or i actually have to go number 2 when i contract..and more discharge lately than usual (sorry TMI) I went to the doctor yesterday and i was a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced...of course that doesnt necessary mean anything because your water can break anytime.. but with everything going on does it sound soon?

You didn't say how far along you were. This could be braxton hicks. I had them for a month before I had either of my kids and they sound very similar to what your experiencing. I was also 1-2 cm dilated for the last few weeks before I went into labor or in my son's case, was induced. My water didn't break for either one until the head crowned. Your going to be looking for the mucus plug (again, TMI, but it will be tinged with blood) and for contractions that are timable. It could be any time, but at the same time, it could be tomorrow or a week from now. Walking alot speeds things along nicely and seems to alleviate the pain a bit.

I would go to the hospital your water dosent always break actually rarley does it happen I am due in 6 wks with number 3 and never did my water break or notice if I had lost my mucous plug if you feel this way Im sure its time to have that baby! I would go because they can sometimes come fast, had we not been close to the hospital with my second my husband would have delivered him, how many wks are you?

Sounds like the start of braxton hicks which is getting your cervix ready for front row seats to the big show.

and for the more often discharge could be your mucous plug working its way out, you can lose pieces at a time and that may be what you experienced.

As to is your baby is on its way soon or not is hard to tell, Mr.Hicks is deceiving and mucous plugs can begin to leave weeks before labor.

you could be ready to go soon but it can also take a very long time to dialate. How far along are you?
