Is this a sign that my son will start to crawl soon?

My 4 1/2 month old son gets on all fours like he wants to crawl and he rocks back and forth like he's trying to move but he hasn't figured out that he needs to move his hands and feet also. Sometimes he tries to go forward and does a face plant in the carpet. Is this a sign that he will crawl soon? He's been doing this for a week now. How long do you think it will be before he starts to really crawl?

Anytime now. You have an early bloomer, I guess. You can encourage him by putting the toys (or in our case it was the remote) a little further. They are so cute when they try to move forward.

That is a sign.The rocking is a sure sign. Can be anyday to a couple of weeks for him. My 5.5 started doing this at 5 months, she gets on all 4's then kisses the floor. Now she is scooting, pulling with right arm and pushing with left leg and visa versa....Im giving her another week or 2 and Ill be chasing her around the house. Make sure everything is baby proofed...WooHOOo

My daughter rocked for 2.5 weeks before starting to crawl. I walked into the bathroom and she got mad because I went out of her sight. The next thing I know she's at the bathroom door!

sounds like he'll be crawling soon, if you want try to help him scoot his hands and feet to show him how its done.
