  1. I am old enough to remember 'before plastic bags'.  My Mum used to have her own shopping bags.  When plastic bags were first introduced in UK it was for food wrapping not shopping bags.  Stores used paper carriers and charged for them.  They were such a wonderful invention to put your packed lunch in and they were very expensive and people used to wash them and put them on the line to dry!  In Southern Ireland they have outlawed plastic bags at the supermarket but supermarkets have reported they have had hugely increased sales of plastic bin liner bags.  At least the plastic supermarket bags are recycled as bin liners etc.  This is a thorny problem and it would be difficult to not be able to use them any more.

  2. I want to assume that even those are made from recycled materials, and good on you for considering the end use of PAPER or PLASTIC.

The problem I see is in some motive it seems there are expectations of some profit HUGE from the sale of these. Here in the States, they can be found for free, or at least more reasonably. Certainly I realize these may be "Prettier" than those I can adapt, but the function, and purpose are the same.

Another thought should also be for the amount they hold. If I, for example, fill a grocery cart at the market, will I have to have a dozen of these? Will I have to carry a single to my vehicle, dump it and go back for another bag full? Will I shop for less items, making more trips to the market, using more fuel than PLASTIC bags are derived from?

Finally, and certainly with no offense, the situation has to become one of a GLOBAL consciousness, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

So many good ideas take a long time to manifest. I wish you success in your notions.

  6. This question was probably directed at the ladies, but there is no harm in having the opinion of a male is there? I was expecting a "hostess" and an aeroplane. I felt that this demo was a sales gimmick for the handbag rather than being concerned for the environment, because it simply told you something you already knew, which is that you can stuff plastic bags into your handbag. I felt that this would be a "handbag snatchers paradise", they could get your store card , mp player, mobile phone, credit card, and a variety of other goods that you ladies put in your bags all in on go.. "You can hang it on your trolley........WOW, hows that for inovation, Its got a Velcro" fastening "Alarm" top....WOW eeeee. and you will now have your own handbag, trolley dolly, children, and shopping  to deal with. Us, ?   we use 6 reusable 50p bags

So for me, "It's a sales gimmick"

  7. There are a number of places that sell reusable bags.  Home Depot, Costco, and Kroger all sell bags for $1-3 each in various sizes.  Every time I go to a conference, it always seemed there was someone in the trade show or the conference itself that handed me a cloth bag to carry stuff in.  That's what I use.
